Photo of the Week: “We’re back”

After over 2 years we’ve returned to the United States on March 31, 2009 through Brownsville, Texas. In the background, Bouey is being interviewed by KVEO while in the foreground Shoppman is giving his thoughts on this triumphant occasion. See you in Denver soon!

Photo of the Week: La Quebrada

In Acapulco we made sure to stop and see the famous cliff divers at La Quebrada. It was an impressive sight to behold.

Photo of the Week (Special Edition): Mustaches = Bigotes

So… we noticed that a big part of Latin-American culture was for the adult males to sport mustaches. What better way for us to spend our final month in Latin-America and Mexico in particular then for all the caballeros on the crew to grow them. Here we are showing the overwhelmingly successful results of our efforts. On this night at our campfire on the beach in Nexpa, Mexico, I was informed that mustaches are called “bigotes” in Spanish.

Photo of the Week: Little Drummer Boy

After an early dinner in Veracruz, the Steves, Nels, and I happened upon a lengthy flag ceremony in the square directly outside the restaurant. It featured retired and current sailors of the Mexican Navy, local high school students carrying out the flag ritual, and the high school band performing a song that must be titled “Veracruz.” The highlight for us was the very young boy seemingly out of place with his camoflauge fatigues, pouting face, and random drum beats.

Photos of the Mid-Week: Boo-man

Bouey, filming the Saturday market on a long drive in Guatemala. Bouey, driving the Tundra, in the zone. Boo-man, with his friends, the habanero peppers.

Photo of the Week: Casa Cenote

During our stay in Tulum, our first destination in Mexico, we were fortunate enough to go scuba diving in two of the famed cenotes with Maya Diving. Here, in Casa Cenote, Bouey is doing some fine underwater filming. Nice work, Steve.

Photo of the Mid-Week: Las Ruinas

Lately, there have been too many good photos to only choose one for the week. This is the largest structure amongst the Mayan Ruins of Caracol. From this viewpoint you can’t even see the final climb as there are three more pyramids on top of this one. The Mayans must have been in very good shape cause we were all huffing and puffing at the top of the steps. But at the top the view is priceless.

Photos of the Week: Arachnophobia

While in Belize we were hosted by Ian Anderson’s Cave Branch Adventure Co. & Jungle Lodge and participated in the “River of Caves” Cave Tubing where we met our new spider friend. Nels and I get up close and personal with what our guides, Edgar and Vida, referred to as an “eight foot spider.” While it looks rather scary it really only tickled a little. Although I think the spider took an unnatural liking to me.

Photo of the Week: A Glimpse of Luxury

In San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua, we had the pleasure of being hosted by Travis Knight at Villa Noche. We definitely enjoyed his beautiful, luxurious home and rental property before we boarded his boat, the Aquaholic, for some fishing. Within one day we went from camping with no amenities to a luxury villa with an infinity pools and million dollar views.

Photo of the Week: Raging River

Nature was definitely a factor during our stay at Chilamate Rainforest Eco-Retreat in Costa Rica. It poured rain for consecutive days and the Sarapiqui River which borders the property rose to dangerous levels and slowly ate away at the river’s banks. At times whole trees and giant logs floated by showing the sheer force of the flood water. Also seen here is the questionable looking but reliable bridge we crossed in the trucks several times. Our photos do not do justice to the the power, danger, and effects of this raging river.
