New Gallery – The Gobi Desert in Mongolia

This was our first taste of really being in the middle of nowhere. Navigating with a compass and binoculars, we drove 650kms through the Gobi without any real roads. It is an eerie experience, but this was just the beginning and easy compared to Western Mongolia. Enjoy. Link to Gallery

Out of Asia

We are nearing our end in Asia.  From Indonesia to Russia we went spanned the continent South to North. From China to Turkey we will have made the passage from East to West. In covering this vast continent, we have encountered bandits, sand storms, snow storms, bears, foxes, cobras, camels, and countless geographical challenges. We […]

It is truly a different world.

In each country there are things that happen or things you read that remind you just how upside down the world is that surrounds you.  On my recent trip back to the states, I purchased some 2-way radios for the trucks.  When I was meandering about town trying to find the best setup I found […]

Fuel costs and more

Earlier on Steve Bouey put together statistics about our fuel consumption and the cost of fuel in various countries. We have recently turned this into a static page on the site so that it is easily accessible to all of those adventurers out there that could use it. Soon we will be putting together even […]

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

We cannot thank all of you enough for your continued support of the expedition. Visas, fuel, accommodation and just about everything else are extremely expensive here in Central Asia.  In fact, we were recently charged and extra $50 “rush fee” for our Uzbek visas.  Apparently, it was a rush because we were early for our […]

Top ten reasons why Toy Tec changed(saved) our lives.

When we first encountered water that would could not get the trucks through in Laos, we realized that we could wait no longer for some lifts on the trucks.  With the roads as bad as they are in some parts of this journey, backtracking as little as 75km can take the better part of a […]

Tha Khek – One of the most and the least

Tha Khek is one of the least visited tourist towns in Laos. It is easy to see why. The majority of the people traveling through Laos do not have their own transportation. Without your own vehicle it is not possible to take Rte 12, which turns out to be one of the most amazing drives […]

Laos Photos

Okay, okay, so we are a little backed up.  5 Countries later and we are catching up on the photo galleries.  We are working hard and many more will be coming over the next week but here is a small start. Pakse – Laos

Thanks for the generosity

I would like to take a moment to thank the people who have recently supported TWBR. Every little bit helps to fill the tanks with gas, pay for visas and afford to get by. Thanks to: Derek Yap Hannah Megacz Katie Shoppman Tom and Judy Magara All of these folks of recently helped us out […]

Thank god for sisters.

When I first came up with this scheme to drive around the world, it was a secret from my family for a while. I knew that my mom and sister would be worried, so it seemed better to get things in motion before getting their input. Months went by and then I decided to tell […]
