border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin: 5px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" title=\"DSC_0071\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/DSC_0071.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSC_0071\" width=\"370\" height=\"254\" align=\"left\" \/> We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve really enjoyed ourselves in Alaska, and all feel very fortunate for all that we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been able to see, experience, and the people we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been able to meet, so it was nice that we got to give back a little this week, as well.\u00c2\u00a0 It has been another great stretch of days in the northern most state.\u00c2\u00a0 It began with a great lake and river kayaking trip\/fly fishing trip with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denaliriverguides.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Denali Southside River Guides<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 We got the opportunity to go out with Craig Jorgensen and two of his crew members on Byers Lake to thoroughly enjoy a day on the water.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t give this day of kayaking and fishing up for anything,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said the fisherman of the crew, Craig Johnson.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">From there we made our way to Anchorage where Steve took the Sequoia to pick up returning crew member Zsofi Somali, as she came in from Hungary.\u00c2\u00a0 The rest of us took the Tundra to Seward, Alaska, where some of us stayed at the wonderful <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sewardhotel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harborview Inn<\/a> for a night, while the others stayed in the great <a href=\"http:\/\/www.superpage.com\/ballaine\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ballaine House B &amp; B<\/a> and the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sewardalaskalodging.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Glacier Lodge<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 These places were very hospitable, and gracious hosts in our stays.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin: 5px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" title=\"DSC_0156\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/DSC_0156.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSC_0156\" width=\"370\" height=\"254\" align=\"right\" \/> The following morning brought us to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alaskasealife.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alaska Sea Life Center<\/a>, where we watched a presentation on Sea Lions, went on a behind the scenes tour, and then Craig and Meagan went on a Puffin Encounter.\u00c2\u00a0 It was really interesting to see how they conduct their research, do their rehab with the animals and then educate the public with tours and exhibits.\u00c2\u00a0 It was also fun to see the pure excitement on the face of Craig when he saw an otter and Meagan when she saw the Puffins.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Our next activity got us up at 3:30 a.m. to make the trek from Seward to Moose Pass to go fishing for King Salmon with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chugachbackcountryfishing.com\/contact.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Chugach Backcountry Fishing<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Owner and guide Corey Hetrick got us out on the Kasilof River, and we gave it a go with the Kings.\u00c2\u00a0 We battled the rain and the cold, and got a couple bites, but luck just wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t on our side.\u00c2\u00a0 That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just how it goes, and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be back to try it again with Chugach Backcountr<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin: 5px 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" title=\"DSC_0105\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/DSC_0105.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSC_0105\" width=\"254\" height=\"370\" align=\"left\" \/>y\u00c2\u00a0 Fishing.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">From there we made it to Anchorage to stay with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alaskabackpackers.com\/\">Alaska Backpacker\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Inn\/Hostel<\/a> from a couple nights in the town.\u00c2\u00a0 We settled in an through the work of the girls were able to set up a volunteer opportunity for us to serve dinner at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cssalaska.org\/brother_francis.php\" target=\"_blank\">Brother Francis Shelter<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 It was nice to give back, and do a small part in helping some needy people.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The following morning we stopped at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.providence.org\/alaska\/services\/children\/\" target=\"_blank\">Children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Hospital at Providence<\/a> in Anchorage for a tour\/visit with some of the kids.\u00c2\u00a0 Bonnie, the Child Life Coordinator, was an incredible person to meet, and it was really inspiring to see all the people and staff helping out the children.\u00c2\u00a0 Their job is really important, and getting to meet and interact with the kids was really something special.\u00c2\u00a0 They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re some really strong and courageous kids, and they really had a big impact\u00c2\u00a0 on us.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Valdez was the next destination after our Anchorage stop, and we really enjoyed the scenic drive that included snow-covered mountains peaks, waterfalls, and even a couple of black bears.\u00c2\u00a0 We got to the wonderful <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooksideinnbb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brookside Inn Bed and Breakfast<\/a>, and met a great couple that run it.\u00c2\u00a0 Today we have sea kayaking at the Columbia Glacier, and are really looking forward to what that has in store.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve really enjoyed ourselves in Alaska, and all feel very fortunate for all that we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been able to see, experience, and the people we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been able to meet, so it was nice that we got to give back a little this week, as well. This week has been another great week in the northern most state. It began with a great lake and river kayaking trip\/fly fishing trip with Denali Southside River Guides.
