border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin: 5px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" title=\"034\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/034.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"034\" width=\"354\" height=\"238\" align=\"left\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We are in the last few days abroad before we cross the border into the United States.\u00c2\u00a0 Bouey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s quote of the week, puts our situation into a certain perspective.\u00c2\u00a0 The trucks are very functional, but have seen better days.\u00c2\u00a0 The absence of shocks in both vehicles makes the roads that much more interesting.\u00c2\u00a0 The dashboard of the Tundra looks like Las Vegas.\u00c2\u00a0 I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m sure every light possible is flashing.\u00c2\u00a0 The Sequoia is without traction control, the engine is making a louder ticking noise each day, the cd player is out of order, the sunroof does not function, and the emergency brake cable drags on the pavement, obviously making it unable to brake in the case of an emergency.\u00c2\u00a0 The-week-on-the-road-warrior Nate rigged the Sequoia bushings with pieces of an old tire to help with the steering, because it helps to make turns while driving across the globe.\u00c2\u00a0 Both windshields, meanwhile, have matching cracks at the perfect height, eye level.\u00c2\u00a0 The small Sony camera\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s LCD screen is broke, one of the devices to record HD footage is out, a microphone jack is broke, along with Shoppman\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s webcam, Bouey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s computer, and Steel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new digital camera that he was able to take 15 pictures with.<\/p>\n<p>Our bodies also have taken a toll.\u00c2\u00a0 The defense mechanism of the mighty agave plant (plant that makes tequila), on which we tried to pick up on our Jose Cuervo tour, did an incredible job of destroying some of our arms.\u00c2\u00a0 Craig\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s arm looks terrible, my arm is fairly terrible, and lucky Shoppman just got a little dose of the crazy skin reaction that attacked our arms.\u00c2\u00a0 He, however, got the unfortunate luck of eating a taco with an extra ingredient, a rock, and has the chipped tooth to prove it.\u00c2\u00a0 This, however, is nothing to the damage done to Bouey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s big toe, which was smashed when a propane tank took a 5 foot dive out of the back of the truck onto his foot.\u00c2\u00a0 We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve dealt with occasional bouts of sickness, stomach irritation and even issues with insomnia.<\/p>\n<p>The road, as you can tell, is a grind, and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s how it has to be.\u00c2\u00a0 There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ups and downs, strikes and gutters, but after its all said and done it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all a part of the adventure, and that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s why we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re here.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px\" title=\"DSC_0357\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/dsc-0357.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSC_0357\" width=\"354\" height=\"238\" align=\"left\" \/> This week in review can be summed up by the three incredible cities and the amazing places that accommodated us.\u00c2\u00a0 The first was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elchantespa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">El Chante Spa Hotel<\/a> in Jocotopec, Mexico.\u00c2\u00a0 The place was first class in everything they had to offer.\u00c2\u00a0 The rooms, service, food, staff, massages Bouey and Craig got, and the temazcal sweat lodge were incredible.\u00c2\u00a0 The cultural, spiritual, temazcal sweat lodge experience we participated in was one of the most intense things I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve ever done.\u00c2\u00a0 The heat brought most of us to the breaking point of getting out, but we all made it.\u00c2\u00a0 We were definitely pushed to the limit, but all finished the 2 hour ceremony.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin: 5px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" title=\"_IGP2528\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/igp2528.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"_IGP2528\" width=\"236\" height=\"354\" align=\"right\" \/> We then made our way to Guanajuato, where we met up with Dante and his family at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.casadedante.com\/como2.html\" target=\"_blank\">La Casa de Dante<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 This picturesque city sits at an elevation of 6,583 feet, has streets lined with stairs and houses painted in bright colors.\u00c2\u00a0 La Case de Dante finds its place right on the mountainside, is 100 stairs below a main road, and were more than accommodating.\u00c2\u00a0 Dante and his family, first off, were kind, nice and caring people, and really helped us out.\u00c2\u00a0 Dante set us up with breakfast, gave great directions to wherever we needed to go, contacted a local paper for an interview, and also had one of his friends, who has a radio show, discuss our project on the air.\u00c2\u00a0 Their hospitality, rooms, services and food make their place the hostel to stay at when visiting Guanajuato.<\/p>\n<p>From Guanajuato we headed north to Monterrey for our final stop before we cross the US border.\u00c2\u00a0 Those on the crew from Colorado agree that Monterrey could be Denver\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sister city.\u00c2\u00a0 Mauricio, the owner of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.monterroco.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Monterroco Hostel<\/a>, took us in for three nights, and we couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have asked for a better place to rest our heads.\u00c2\u00a0 His colonial hostel is relaxing, is welcoming to tourists and well as students, has a warm atmosphere, and has a nice little pool that cooled us off in the dry heat of\u00c2\u00a0 Monterrey.\u00c2\u00a0 Mauricio was a great host, I really enjoyed my conversations with him, and he gave us a lot of good information on the city of Monterrey.\u00c2\u00a0 The city with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, great little markets, and 40 mile-per-hour go-carts.<\/p>\n<p>We had a great last, full week in Mexico, but are anxiously awaiting the border crossing back into the United States.\u00c2\u00a0 3 hours <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px;
