{"id":2046,"date":"2009-02-17T23:01:49","date_gmt":"2009-02-18T04:01:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/?p=2046"},"modified":"2009-02-17T12:40:09","modified_gmt":"2009-02-17T17:40:09","slug":"living-the-jungle-dream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/2009\/02\/17\/living-the-jungle-dream","title":{"rendered":"Living The Jungle Dream"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Welcome!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d exclaimed owner, Davis, with a smile from ear to ear.\u00c2\u00a0 He has many reasons to smile these days, for what started as a dream has now turned into reality.\u00c2\u00a0 He and his wife, Meghan, are the proud owners of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chilamaterainforest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Climante Rainforest Eco-Retreat<\/a> in the <span class=\"textos\">Chilamate, Sarapiqui region of beautiful Costa Rica.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"textos\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px\" title=\"DSC_0001\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/wp-content\/uploads\/LivingTheJungleDream_FB47\/DSC_0001.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSC_0001\" width=\"404\" height=\"272\" align=\"left\" \/> Their amazing 50 acre property of Sarapiqui Tropical Rainforest is both a reserve and wildlife refuge, and also a great place to learn and teach.\u00c2\u00a0 The natural landscape enable students, both local and international, to explore and study biodiversity, conservation techniques, and reforestation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"textos\">Their family bought the reserve in 2000 from Don Lindley Lumsden who protected the land for more than 60 years by standing up to poachers and people wanting to cut down the trees, pasture the land and use through development.\u00c2\u00a0 The property came with beautiful gardens, basic housing accommodations, and a basic kitchen, but Davis\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 mastery of carpentry turned basic into unbelievable.\u00c2\u00a0 The main lodge, kitchen, walkways and cabins that he created by hand are beyond esthetically pleasing.\u00c2\u00a0 One can see the hard work and dedication in the various handcrafted items he has built.\u00c2\u00a0 Everything is made on the property or bought locally, only adding to the impressiveness of its sustainability. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"textos\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px 0px; border-right-width: 0px\" title=\"DSC_0005\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/wp-content\/uploads\/LivingTheJungleDream_FB47\/DSC_0005.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSC_0005\" width=\"404\" height=\"272\" align=\"right\" \/> Their projects, passion, service, dedication, effort on conservation and sustainability are very admirable.\u00c2\u00a0 They use solar power, organic food grown from their property or food bought from the locals. Their family involvement in the project and their connections in the community bring everything together.\u00c2\u00a0 The Sarapiqui area functions as one, with different organizations and companies promoting each other and directing tourists to each other.\u00c2\u00a0 With activities ranging from rafting to cooking classes, massage to yoga classes a stay here proves to be more than just a few quiet nights in the jungle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"textos\">Our experience here allowed us to witness the magnitude of nature. The area\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s focal point is the Sarapiqui River, and due the big earthquake a month prior to our arrival upstream, the river was raging,\u00c2\u00a0 knocking down entire trees and destroying banks.\u00c2\u00a0 To all of us this seemed like an impending disaster but Davis saw things differently saying, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nothing, man, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just nature.\u00c2\u00a0 It may have taken away some of my property, but the river is wider, which is good.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"textos\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px\" title=\"DSC_0556\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theworldbyroad.com\/expedition\/wp-content\/uploads\/LivingTheJungleDream_FB47\/DSC_0556.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSC_0556\" width=\"404\" height=\"272\" align=\"left\" \/>With great accommodations, hospitality, scenery and service our stay in the jungle truly encompassed\u00c2\u00a0 the famous Costa Rican slogan, as Davis would recited, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Pura Vida!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, which translates to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Pure Life.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"textos\"> <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Welcome!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d exclaimed owner, Davis, with a smile from ear to ear.
